Importing leads can be tricky, follow this step by step walkthrough to import your list of leads.

  1. Start by clicking on the Add New Leads menu and choose import leads

  3. Next, download the import template CSV so you can format your list of leads properly for importing

  5. Save the template to your desktop and open it in Excel. You will see that the template has a column for each row in your lead form
  6. NOTE: Because Express has different lead forms for each vertical (Mortgage, Debt/Loan Mod, Insurance (Auto/Home), Insurance (Health/Life), Generic, the import template you download will be unique to that lead form.

  7. Save the template to your desktop and open it in Excel. You will see that the template file has two columns of data filled out. The image below the header row which contains the names of your fields (only the first few fields are shown in this screenshot, there are more if you scroll to the right in your file).

The image below shows the second row which is a set of sample data for you to use to properly format your import file. You can see that some fields say "text value" while others actually have a number or other data in it. It is important that you format your file to match this formatting. For example, if you are trying to import a phone number in the Home Phone Field, and you enter it as (310) 5551212 it will error because the formatting needs to be 310-555-1212.

  9. You must carefully convert the file you want to import so that it matches this template exactly. This can take some time, but after doing it one time, you'll get the hang of it. Each row after the header row will contain your leads. If you do not have data for all the columns you can leave some blank.
  10. NOTE: The first column, Ref Id, is the unique lead ID and is created by Express during import. You should just leave this field blank. Do not try to import the row of sample data, delete this after you've finalized your import file.

  11. After you have constructed your import file, go back to the import leads page and begin importing. Select the file you created by clicking the "browse" button.
  12. Then choose the campaign you want to assign to these leads when they are imported. If you have not created a campaign yet, you may want to do this first (click here for details on creating a campaign).
  13. Next select the status you want the leads to be put into after importing
  14. Next select the user you want assigned to the leads after importing them

  16. Finally, click the Begin Importing button to start your import
  17. Depending on the size of your file (you can only import 1000 at a time) you will have to wait while the records are imported. You will see initially that your import is "pending"
  18. import_history_pending1.png

  19. You can leave this page and return later to see if it has been completed. Once the import is completed it will either say successful or with errors.

  21. You can leave this page and return later to see if it has been completed. Once the import is completed it will either say successful or with errors. Click on the "view details" link in green to see the results. The last column in the popup window shows the results of the import. You can see in the example below, for the import that had errors, the error was that the zip code and phone numbers and SSN were not properly formatted.
  22. NOTE: When looking at the results popup window, be sure to scroll all the way to the right to see the error messages.
